LOUISVILLE, KY – On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, Dr. Rand Paul released his tenth campaign TV ad which features testimony from Navada and Krista Gwynn, who in 2019 lost their son to a drive-by shooting in Louisville, and then in 2021 experienced the trauma of their daughter being shot in the knee at a city park, also in Louisville.

Background Information:

Dr. Rand Paul released a 30 second TV ad which features testimony from Navada and Krista Gwynn, parents of 19 year old Christian Gwynn, who was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in Louisville in 2019, and then in 2021 experienced the trauma of their 19 year old daughter being shot in the knee at a city park also in Louisville.

As the ad begins, the Gwynns recall their personal experience of violence in Louisville, “I lost my son and almost lost my daughter to violence. To lose someone so young was so horrible.”

The ad continues with the Gwynns discussing Dr. Paul’s efforts to meet with families of violence and work with them, community leaders, and law enforcement to solve rising crime rates across Kentucky, “Rand Paul stood there and listened, and I felt good that somebody cared. My son wasn’t just a statistic. Rand Paul cares about people, above politics and parties…Rand Paul is working to make my community better.”

During Dr. Paul’s time in the U.S. Senate, he has worked closely with community leaders like Christopher 2X and his Game Changers program that promotes childhood education, parental involvement, mentoring and community involvement to end violence long term.

Dr. Paul has also worked with UofL Health Surgeons and Christopher 2X on their Future Healers and Got Zoo Buddies programs that aim to encourage youth in the neighborhoods most affected by violence to pursue lives of healing.

Navada and Krista Gwynn were also featured in Dr. Paul’s ninth campaign ad titled Strife that focused on Democrat Charles Booker, in his own words, advocating to defund the police. In the ad Strife, the Gwynns advocate for law enforcement in their community as a tool to help stop violence in Louisville, “There’s people out here like me that need the police and Charles Booker is not the answer.”

Those on the radical left continue to call for defunding the police while crime rises across the Commonwealth. Louisville ranks amongst some of our nation’s largest cities including Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Chicago for record high homicides and violent crime. Background Information:

Dr. Rand Paul released three 30 second TV ads featuring the work that he has done to help families struck by the floods in Eastern Kentucky and tornadoes in Western Kentucky, as well as our veterans across the Commonwealth.

As the ads show, Dr. Paul has consistently put Kentuckians as his highest priority and has been there to assist when they’ve needed him most.

Since the beginning of this year, Dr. Paul’s Bowling Green office alone has answered over 12,500 phone calls. They’ve helped over 2,700 Kentuckians who needed assistance dealing with federal agencies.

As a resident of Western Kentucky, Dr. Paul knows first hand the devastation from the tornadoes. While his own home wasn’t far from where one of the tornadoes passed through in Bowling Green, as soon as it was safe to do so, he immediately began working with local, state, and federal officials on the recovery efforts. And when the floods struck Eastern Kentucky, Dr. Paul’s team again mobilized and were among the first on site looking for ways to help the community get on the road to recovery.

His state staff have conducted five visits to the disaster areas in both Eastern and Western Kentucky to help Kentuckians in need. Dr. Paul has personally conducted over a dozen local visits to areas impacted by the natural disasters on either side of the state.

Dr. Paul has always fought to protect tax dollars from going towards wasteful spending overseas and instead prioritize them for needs here in Kentucky. Most recently, he’s been outspoken against sending money to Ukraine while Kentuckians continue to recover from flooding and tornadoes here at home. And, in an effort to respond to the ongoing needs and concerns of Kentuckians on the ground in Eastern Kentucky, Dr. Paul advocated for unspent COVID-19 relief funds to be used to help repair and rebuild homes and businesses in all federally declared disaster areas.

In addition to his work that he’s conducted in his official capacity, Dr. Paul has also donated $120,000 in campaign funds to local charities and organizations devoted to helping Kentucky families recover from these disasters.

BOWLING GREEN, KY – On Monday, December 13, 2021, Dr. Rand Paul announced his re-election campaign would donate $100,000 to local charities following the tornado disaster in Western Kentucky.

“My home, my community, my family and friends are hurting,” said Dr. Paul. “Yet, through it all, our spirit has not broken and instead we have resolved to come back stronger than ever. Today, my campaign is announcing we will donate $100,000 to local charities to help those in need. In the days and weeks ahead, both my campaign and my official office will join every effort to help Western Kentucky heal.”

Below are the recipients of the donations from Dr. Paul:

The Mayfield Graves County Tornado Relief Fund was set up by Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden and other community leaders through Independence Bank to help restore the county after the devastating tornadoes impacted their homes.

Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief is a statewide disaster relief organization based out of Louisville that has trained more than 2,500 individuals to be disaster relief workers. Volunteers take part in serving meals, moving debris with chainsaws, cleaning up homes devastated by natural disasters, and more.

Relevant Church is based in Paducah and has been collecting items, food, water, and more to help families recover in the wake of the deadly tornadoes.

Redemption City Church is a Dawson Springs church that was affected by the tornado and has since rebuilt their own building to help provide refuge to those who lost everything with a warm meal and bed.

HOTEL INC (Helping Others Through Extending Love – In the Name of Christ) is a Warren County charitable organization that focuses on helping citizens with pathways towards stable housing, community resources, building relationships, quality food, and serving neighbors.

The United Way of Southern Kentucky is a Bowling Green based organization that has set up a fund to benefit those impacted by the tornadoes. All funds will go towards assisting organizations serving on the front line and organizations assisting those who have been affected.
